Historical evolution Yaodu was one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. More than 4,700 years ago, Emperor Yao established his capital here and created the ancient civilization of the Chinese nation. During the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, Pingyang belonged to Jizhou. During the Spring and Autumn Period, the three families of Han, Zhao and Wei were divided into Jin, and Pingyang belonged to Han. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, it belonged to Hedong County. In the third year of Yongjia in Jin Dynasty (AD 309), Liu Yuan established his capital here. In the third year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (583 AD), it was first called Linfen. In the Tang, Five Dynasties and Song Dynasties, it was Linfen County, belonging to Jinzhou, Hedong Road. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was Pingyang Prefecture, Hedong Road, Shanxi Province. During the Republic of China, the name changed many times. In April 1937, Linfen City and Linfen County were established. In June 1949, the city and county merged and were called Linfen County. In 1971, Linfen City and County were divided, both belonging to the Linfen area. In October 1983, Linfen County was merged into Linfen City and still belongs to Linfen area. On November 1, 2000, the former county-level Linfen City was renamed Yaodu District. Natural conditions The entire region has a temperate continental climate with four distinct seasons and a pleasant climate. It has 680,000 acres of arable land. The annual average temperature is 14.3 degrees and the frost-free period is 203 days. The average annual precipitation is 550 mm. Groundwater reserves are 148 million cubic meters. The river systems within the territory mainly include Fen River and its tributaries Lao River and Er River. Fenhe River is the largest transit river in the region, with a length of 28 kilometers, flowing through 6 towns, and a drainage area of 122 square kilometers. The forest coverage rate of the entire region is 17.6%, and the urban green coverage rate reaches 25.5%.
