The host country’s venues have always been the highlight during every World Expo, because they represent the country’s image and the people’s will, as well as the latest scientific and technological achievements and the various beautiful imaginations carried by human beings through architecture. Pavilion Introduction: The China National Pavilion is a permanently reserved pavilion in the Shanghai World Expo. The museum will take "Chinese Wisdom in Urban Development" as its theme and systematically display Chinese wisdom with "harmony" as its core.
The China Pavilion is the crystallization of Chinese wisdom. On April 25 this year, the China Pavilion architectural plan was publicly solicited from Chinese people around the world. As soon as the announcement came out, it received an immediate positive response. As of June 15, *** received 344 applications. After layers of screening, the three most impactful works stood out. "Chinese culture has a long history, and it is difficult to use a concrete image to represent the essence of culture, so it must be refined from the overall image." Academician He Jingtang told reporters. At present, this China Pavilion, which combines the strengths of the Architectural Design Institute of South China University of Technology, Tsinghua Andi Architectural Design Company and Shanghai Architectural Design Institute, is the crystallization of collective wisdom.
The interpretation of "ancient" means "new" reveals a fresh breath
As one of the most important pavilions built by the host country of the World Expo, the China Pavilion is based on "Chinese wisdom in urban development". The core display content carries the Chinese nation’s expectations for technological development and social progress. If you savor it carefully, you will find that the design of the China Pavilion condenses many Chinese elements. At the same time, the "ancient" meaning of these traditional elements means "new" interpretation, revealing a fresh breath -
■China Red The China Pavilion uses the majestic and calm "Forbidden City Red" as the main color of the building. , the colors are eye-catching and easy for the world to understand.
■In the composition of the China Pavilion, which integrates heaven and earth, the overall layout of the national pavilion and regional pavilion is a metaphor for the harmony of heaven and earth and the prosperity of all things, which embodies the understanding of the relationship between "heaven" and "earth" in Eastern philosophy. The national pavilion is "sky", like a sculpture towering above, like a crown of flowers, the granary of the world; the regional pavilion is "earth", like a base extending below, implying the prosperity of Shenzhou and the prosperity in all directions.
Of the absolute height of 63 meters in the national pavilion, the lower 33 meters are completely hollow. These central symmetrical spaces and the flat extended space of the regional pavilions provide sufficient open places for people to communicate freely. This kind of openness and fairness is an important concept in international architectural design.
■The National Pavilion in the shape of a crown embodies the cultural elements of traditional Chinese architecture with its overall majestic crown shape. At the same time, the traditional curve design is straightened, and the overhanging main shape shows the strength and structural beauty of modern engineering technology. This simplified decorative line naturally completes the contemporary expression of traditional architecture.
■ "Gui" and "Hui" unify the space combination order of the China Pavilion, which consists of two parts: "Gui" and "Hui", both of which are derived from the prototype of traditional Chinese urban architecture. "Gui" originates from the ritualized space of traditional Chinese architecture. Human walking is introduced into the central symmetrical space pattern that symbolizes the essence of nature, so that a single space evolves into a hierarchical and progressive spatial sequence. This is the origin of the spatial order in the Forbidden City.
"Hui" originates from the non-ritualized space of traditional Chinese architecture. People's visual, auditory and other aspects of experience are used to give structural order to the seemingly disordered natural landscape, thereby sublimating the natural space into human beings. The essence of nature that can be grasped by culture is the reason for the spatial order of Jiangnan gardens. The China Pavilion plan integrates these two modes, introducing different modes of human activities between the central symmetrical space of the national pavilion and the flat extended space of the regional pavilion.
On the one hand, it carries the essence of traditional Chinese culture with a long history, and on the other hand, it also displays the Expo theme of "Better City, Better Life", a China that walks between "ancient" and "new" trends. The museum shoulders many "missions". Can it become another landmark building along the Huangpu River? Maybe time will give the answer.
