As an ordinary mainlander, the ways to work and settle in Taiwan are as follows:

1. If you marry a Taiwanese, you can work after marriage. The salary in Taiwan is relatively average, about RMB 6,000-8,000. It may not be as good as first-tier cities like Beijing and Shanghai, but it should be OK compared with second- and third-tier cities in mainland China. If you are determined to go to Taiwan, this route is not impossible. Many agencies now offer fake marriages, and the fees start at least 100,000 yuan.

2. People from mainland China can immigrate to Taiwan in a straight line. They first need to obtain the nationality of a third country, and then they need to have proof of living overseas for 4 years. After that, they can work/do business/invest in Taiwan with this status. This is not an online visa. On the road, I was told to settle directly as a foreigner.

3. People from Hong Kong and Macao who invest NT$5 million in Taiwan and operate legally for 2-4 years can apply for a naturalization permit. (Hong Kong and Macao only)

4. Those who have made contributions in special fields, such as Nobel Prize winners, Olympic medalists, experts and professors in professional fields, can apply to the Ministry of the Interior to settle in Taiwan based on economic and cultural exchange factors.

5. The approval rate for refugee asylum applications is only about 1%.
