In the Three Kingdoms, it is unknown how many women Liu Bei had, but there are four women recorded in history. These four women have different attitudes towards Liu Bei. Political marriage, but also true love. Let’s take a look at who these four women are.
TOP, 4 Empress Mu Wu
Queen Mu Wu is the sister of the chariot general Wu Yi. Wu lost her father in her early years. Her father had a close friendship with Liu Yan during his lifetime, so the whole family followed him. Liu Yan came to Shu. Later, Liu Yan heard from a fortune teller that the Wu family had a noble appearance, so he married the Wu family for his son Liu Hao. After Liu Mao's death, Wu became a widow.
In 214 AD, Liu Bei pacified Yizhou and took Wu as his wife. In 219 AD, Liu Bei proclaimed himself the King of Hanzhong and made Wu the Queen of Hanzhong. In 221 AD, Liu Bei proclaimed himself emperor, established the Shu Han Dynasty, and made Wu his queen. In 223 AD, Liu Bei died, and Prince Liu Chan ascended the throne, honoring his aunt Wu as the empress dowager.
There is no affection at all between Empress Mu Wu and Liu Bei. The two were purely political marriages. Although Liu Bei occupied Xichuan, he had no foundation. If he wanted to quickly stabilize the people of Bashu, Marriage was of course the best choice; after Fazheng's persuasion, Liu Bei married Wu and made Wu his queen. But the two did not have children.
TOP, 3 Sun Shangxiang
The relationship between Sun Shangxiang and Liu Bei should be regarded as a political marriage; after the Battle of Chibi, Sun Quan’s sister was married to Liu Bei. Mrs. Sun was quick-witted, strong and brave, in the style of her brothers from the same clan. She was surrounded by more than a hundred maids, all of whom were guarding her with swords. Even people like Liu Bei feel scared every time they enter the inner room. For this reason, Fazheng persuaded Liu Bei to keep a distance from Mrs. Sun.
When Liu Bei lived in Gong'an County, Jingzhou City, the hardship and embarrassment reached the extreme. He was afraid of Cao Cao's power in the north and Sun Quan's threat in the east. Mrs. Sun beside him was like an enemy country in his boudoir, and he was regarded as one of them. Liu Bei's disaster. At that time, Mrs. Sun relied on her being Sun Quan's sister to be unruly and domineering. Therefore, most of the officers and soldiers she brought from Wu State did not abide by the law. Because Zhao Yun was solemn, Liu Bei ordered him to manage internal affairs.
Later, Liu Bei built a city in Xiaoling west of Gong'an City in Jingzhou City, called "Xiling City" or "Madame Sun City", and let Mrs. Sun live with her maids and guards. There is also a saying that this city was built because Mrs. Sun was jealous of Liu Bei, so she built the city herself instead of living with Liu Bei. In 211 AD, Liu Bei entered Shu, and Sun Quan sent a large ship to welcome his sister back to Wu. Mrs. Sun planned to take Liu Chan away with her, but was intercepted by General Yamen Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei on the river and took Liu Chan back. It is unknown since then.
TOP, 2 Mrs. Mi
Mrs. Mi is the sister of Mi Zhu, a wealthy man in Xuzhou. In 196 AD, when Yuan Shu attacked Liu Bei, Lu Bu took the opportunity to attack Xiapi and obtained Liu Bei's wife and children. After Liu Bei stationed his army in Guangling, Mi Zhu offered his sister to Liu Bei as his wife, and gave him two thousand slaves, gold and silver as military supplies, and Liu Bei's army was able to revive.
In 198 AD, Lu Bu captured Liu Bei's family again. In the same year, Lu Bu was captured, and Liu Bei's family returned to Liu Bei. In the spring of 200 AD, the Clothing Edict occurred. Cao Cao personally went east to conquer Liu Bei, but Liu Bei was defeated. Cao Cao captured Liu Bei's wife and their children, and captured Guan Yu alive. He then withdrew his troops and returned to Xudu. What happened after that is unknown. It is not known whether he was taken over by Cao Cao or brought back by Guan Yu.
TOP, 1 Mrs. Gan
In 194 AD, when Liu Bei was living in Xiaopei as a shepherd in Yuzhou, Mrs. Gan was his concubine. Because Liu Bei was widowed many times in his early years, the position of the principal wife was vacant, so Mrs. Gan often took charge of the housekeeping. In 207 AD, Mrs. Gan followed Liu Bei to Jingzhou and gave birth to her son Liu Chan. In 208 AD, Cao Cao sent his army south to conquer Liu Biao, the herdsman of Jingzhou. Liu Biao died of illness. Liu Cong, Liu Biao's second son, took over as the herdsman of Jingzhou and sent envoys to ask Cao Cao to surrender.
At that time, Liu Bei was stationed in Fancheng, but Cao Cao's army suddenly attacked. When Cao's army reached Wancheng, Liu Bei learned the news and led his troops to withdraw from Fancheng. During Liu Bei's withdrawal, hundreds of thousands of people from Jingzhou accompanied him, which caused the march to be very slow. When they reached Dangyang Changban Slope, they were overtaken by Cao Cao's army. In a hurry, Liu Bei abandoned Mrs. Gan and his son Liu Chan, and fled south on horseback with Zhuge Liang, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun and dozens of others.
The situation at that time was very urgent. Fortunately, Zhao Yun returned in time to protect Mrs. Gan and Liu Chan, and risked his life to fight with Cao's army so that the mother and son survived. Although Mrs. Gan later died of illness, after Liu Bei became emperor, he posthumously named Mrs. Gan "Mrs. Huangsi" and ordered her coffin to be transported to Shu for burial. After Liu Chan ascended the throne as empress, Zhuge Liang wrote to the court and posthumously named Mrs. Gan "Queen Zhaolie".
Among these four women, if you want to say that Liu Bei’s favorite should be Mrs. Gan, there is no doubt that although Liu Bei has never helped Mrs. Gan, everyone in the Liu Bei group regards Mrs. Gan as their mistress; It is said that the person who treated Liu Bei the most was Mrs. Mi. The Mi family's support to Liu Bei was extremely important, but Mrs. Mi was always just a concubine. As for Sun Shangxiang and the Wu family, they were just political marriages. Among them, Sun Shangxiang was the most feared by Liu Bei. .
